Living at the Source:
Yoga Teachings of Vivekananda
"How good is it to have this important,
wisely selected collection of Vivekananda's essential writing. His stirring voice
resounds through its pages, from cover to cover."
- HUSTON SMITH, author of The World's Religions
"Engrossing and enriching. Vivekananda's thoughts are especially relevant
to today's problems, as they are profound yet practical. This is a book which should
be widely read."
- ANNE BANCROFT, author of Weavers of Wisdom
FROM THE BEACON: Living at the Source was compiled
in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of Swami Vivekananda's appearance at the
1893 World Parliament of Religions, held in Chicago, in which he struck a powerful
chord for inter-faith harmony. Vivekananda was one of the most prominent disciples
of the great Indian sage Ramakrishna and was responsible for helping to bring his
message of divine love and the ways of the spiritual life to many Western seekers.
This compilation draws from a wide range of Vivekananda's talks and writings and
brings clearly to light his position as a forerunner of noble stature whose words
have lost none of their impact today. His thoughts combine deep humility, wisdom
and love and present a practical means by which ancient spiritual truths can be applied
within the daily life.
